Fuel Consumption Drop

Despite a growing population, global fuel use is projected to decline after the year 2021. By 2035 overall consumption is expected to dip by 4 percent.

These estimates come from Navigant Research and a report entitled “Transportation Forecast: Global Fuel Consumption.” The forecasting firm estimates that in 2021 some 367.3 billion gallons of fuel will be burned. But by 2035 they project that figure will decline to just 348.1 billion.

Why the drop? Interestingly it’s not tied to peak oil or supply limitations, instead the accelerated implementation of alternative fuels and increasing environmental concerns related to petroleum will drive this not-insignificant dip in oil usage.
